Sociology Department Gains International Honor Society Membership

RADFORD — The Radford University sociology program has been accepted into Alpha Kappa Delta, an international honor society devoted to sociology.

Membership in the society provides RU sociology majors and students interested in the discipline an opportunity to become individual members of the prestigious honor society.

“Being accepted into Alpha Kappa Delta means we have now placed something in front of our students that says, ‘strive for this,’” said Paula Brush, chair of RU’s Sociology and Anthropology Department. “Our students can now have this membership on their resumes when they apply for jobs and graduate schools.”

To become a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, students must be at least a junior and must have declared a sociology major or demonstrated a serious interest in the study. Students must also have accumulated an overall GPA of 3.0 and rank in the top 35 percent of their class in general scholarship.

RU sociology faculty members are also eligible to join Alpha Kappa Delta.
